Sodium Chloride — Industrial, Food-Grade & De-Icing Applications

Sodium Chloride, commonly known as table salt, is a white, crystalline substance that is odorless and has a characteristic salty taste. It is highly soluble in water and serves as one of the most ubiquitous chemicals, found naturally in seawater and as mineral halite.

Uses: Sodium Chloride is widely known for its use as a seasoning and preservative in food. Beyond culinary applications, it is used for water softening, de-icing, and in medical saline solutions for intravenous therapy.

Industrial Applications: Sodium Chloride plays a key role in numerous industries. It's used to produce chlorine and soda ash in the chemical sector. In oil and gas, it functions as a component of drilling fluids. It is also used in water treatment for softening hard water, and in the textile industry for dyeing and printing. Additionally, it's a go-to de-icing agent for roads and highways during winter.

Safety and Handling: Generally safe for handling, but in industrial settings, airborne dust should be avoided to prevent respiratory irritation. Bulk handling should include protective gloves and safety goggles. Store in a dry location to prevent clumping. Rinse with water if contact with eyes or skin occurs.

UN Number: Sodium Chloride is not classified as hazardous and does not have a UN Number.
